Water for Life: Providing Clean Water and Sanitation for Communities in Need.
Welcome to Water for Life – a grassroots development water and sanitation program of the Liberia Annual Conference The United Methodist Church dedicated to providing clean and safe water and improved sanitation facilities to underserved communities in Liberia and the Republic of Guinea. Since its inception in 2009, we have been committed to positively impacting the lives of people in need.
Our Story
Water for Life began with a tragic incident in a local village, highlighting the urgent need for clean water. In 2009, an eighteen-year-old man with epilepsy tragically passed away while fishing in a river that the villagers downstream were using for various purposes such as drinking, cooking, and bathing. The discovery of the man’s body in the river four days later sparked the realization of the dangers posed by contaminated water sources. This incident led to the construction of the first well in the village, serving over 400 residents and marking the beginning of our mission.
Our Impact
What started as a single project in a village has now grown into a nationwide initiative, with over 500 wells erected across Liberia and extending into the Republic of Guinea. Our vision is clear: to provide access to clean and safe water for every village and town in Liberia and Guinea. Through our efforts, we aim to improve the health, well-being, and quality of life of communities in need.
Our Mission
At Water for Life, we believe that access to clean water is a fundamental human right. We are dedicated to working with local communities, local authorities, schools, health centers, and churches to ensure everyone can access safe water and sanitation facilities. By empowering communities and promoting sustainable development, we strive to create a better future for all.
